Mule was back at Beale Street Music Festival in 2010, and man, did they put on a hot show! It was the second time I’d seen them since Jorgen Carlsson took over on bass, and he really fits in with the band well. Best of all, he brings that “Mule” sound back to the group.

While the whole show was great (yeah, it’s cliche’ to say, but it’s true), “Broke Down On The Brazos” killed. With Carlsson’s dirty bassline, it really brings attitude back to the group that’s been missing for years.

Cody Dickinson came out to play washboard on “32/20 Blues,” a nice touch, and when they teased “Whole Lotta Love” during the set-closing “Mule,” the crowd went nuts. Across the board, a very solid performance that didn’t turn into a Mule’s-greatest-hits festival set.
